Fairfield County resident Nicholas Skirkanich of Ridgefield pleaded guilty on Wednesday, Feb. 21 to a child pornography possession charge, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut announced.
According to federal officials, in October 2022, an online service provider submitted a CyberTip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that indicated a TikTok video containing child sex abuse content was sent from Skirkanich's email account to another email account.
The report indicated that Skirkanich worked as a math teacher at Greenwich High School at the time and had access to children, according to court documents.
More investigation revealed that Skirkanich possessed and accessed more material containing child sex abuse imagery between August 2021 and December 2022, federal officials said.
As a result, Skirkanich was arrested on December 15, 2022.
On Wednesday, Skirkanich pleaded guilty to accessing with intent to view and possessing child pornography, an offense that carries a maximum prison term of 10 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, May 15, and is released on a $150,000 bond until then.
